In 1921, the captain of the British cargo ship the SS Wandby misread his chart in the fog and wrecked on the rocks off the coast of Kennebunk, Maine. With zero casualties, the English crew found themselves stranded in the small Maine village. They were welcomed with open arms by the residents, filling their days with feasts, plays, dances and various forms of merriment until the crew members could find their way home.
Wandby Landing is a restaurant seeking to embody that same signature Kennebunk hospitality that is present over a century later.
I got my start in the restaurant world at 16, bussing tables and working my way up to serving. After high school, I moved to Portland, Maine, for college and worked at a bunch of different spots to make ends meet. That’s when I met my now husband and business partner; he actually taught me how to bartend at Margarita’s.
From there, I was hungry (pun intended) to learn more, so I moved on to places where I could really soak up knowledge. Central Provisions, Earth at Hidden Pond, Isa, and Emilitsa were all huge parts of my journey, and I became interested in learning everything I could about wine, spirits, and food.
Fast forward to December 2020, right in the middle of the COVID madness, and my husband and I took a leap and started this project at 46 Western Ave. Our goal? To create a spot with killer food and drinks, but most importantly, a place that feels like home. We wanted to create an atmosphere where you could come for a date night, grab a pizza with friends, and feel like it was your new favorite spot, something you’d want to visit all the time.
When I’m not working, you can find me hiking, camping, gardening, at the beach, or just exploring somewhere new.
I didn’t set out to build a restaurant, I just never left.
I started as a dish dog, moved to the bar, then into the flow of the dining room, learning how it all works. Somewhere in a corporate training seminar, a line stuck with me, Are you an order taker or an experience maker? That question rewired how I saw hospitality.
Since then, I’ve opened restaurants with some great chefs, built spaces that work for both guests and teams, and stayed behind the bar long enough to know who’s coming in to celebrate and who just needs a good pour. I met my wife, and now business partner, working together in a, regional Mexican restaurant, and we’ve been building this thing together ever since.
Wandby Landing is the sum of that journey. Honest food. Thoughtful design. Comfortable hospitality. Nothing flashy, just the kind of place you want to come back to.
I am a native of York, Maine, with a deep-rooted passion for the culinary arts that began at the age of 13 when I started as a dishwasher at the now closed Fazio's Italian Restaurant in York. The fast-paced energy of the kitchen captivated me, and I quickly transitioned to cooking on the line during summers and after school.
Though I initially pursued business studies in Colorado, the allure of the kitchen and the call of Maine ultimately brought me back home. Over the years, I have gained valuable experience at several renowned establishments, including MC Perkins Cove, Arrows, Earth at Hidden Pond, Kennebunkport Inn, and Nebo Lodge.
Outside of the kitchen, I enjoy spending my free time foraging, fishing, hiking, and snowboarding, activities that keep me grounded and inspired.
